Last week, we worked with all the preschool classes on the theme of fire department/burns.
Spark and Bravo, two hand puppets, were central to this theme. Each class could tell a story with a focus that varied by age group.
For the 3-year-old preschoolers, the focus was on hot/cold, and they were able to create an evacuation rope or play bingo, etc. The preschoolers really enjoyed playing with the hand puppets and creating games with the concepts of hot and cold.
For the 4-year-old preschoolers, the emphasis of the story was on water/fire/how a firefighter looks, and they were able to make puzzles related to water/fire, play memory games, learn a song, etc.
Also with the 5-year-old kindergarteners, water/fire was central, but burns and the symbols of dangerous/safe were also addressed. They received a workbook, a board game, learned the follow-up song, how to evacuate in case of fire, dangerous pictograms, an evacuation video, ….
The slogan ‘what to do in case of burns’ has certainly stuck: FIRST WATER, THE REST COMES LATER, and how to evacuate has also become very clear.
Our preschoolers really enjoyed themselves and learned a lot, all the colleagues found it a very fun and educational theme. Some classes also crafted a nice gift for Father’s Day within this theme. The experience was great!!
The students from the primary school were able to gain experiences in the smoke chamber that was set up in our playground. The experience of not being able to see due to the smoke certainly made an impression on the students.
Our heartfelt thanks go to the prevention team of Help Burn Injuries Kids for all the beautiful, solid, useful materials for the kindergarteners, and the interesting and professional explanation about fire/burns for the primary school that we were allowed to receive for FREE. You are AMAZING!!
A big thumbs up from Team De Kei Beek.
