On April 27th, we visited the children’s farm ‘t Struisvogelnest in Lier together with 23 burn-injured children and their families.
During the tour, the children could cuddle and pet the animals as much as they wanted; bunnies, goats, chicks, horses, donkeys, … The ostriches curiously poked their heads up when we entered the stables and eagerly ate the bread that was thrown to them by our animal friends.
Did you know that one ostrich egg is equivalent to 25 chicken eggs? And the egg doesn’t break if you stand on it!
For those who liked, there were delicious pancakes for lunch made with ostrich eggs.
In the afternoon, our children became real bakers and made cookies with, what else, ostrich eggs, while the parents enjoyed a walk in the beautiful surroundings.
Afterwards, Zaïa’s mother wrote: “THANK YOU! We had a really wonderful day. The children truly enjoyed it. They played a lot, ate delicious food, and also made tasty cookies.
We had just left when Zaïa was already asking when we would come back.
Thank you for the organization!”
