26/4/26: trip to ‘t Struisvogelnest petting farm in Lier
For the second time in a row, we took a small group of young burn patients and their families to ‘t Struisvogelnest in Lier. This time, there were 18 families.
During the tour of the farm, the animals were showered with cuddles from the children. Rabbits, ponies, donkeys, goats, sheep, chickens, alpacas… they all got a turn.
The most impressive part was definitely the ostrich house.
Did you know, by the way, that one ostrich egg is equivalent to 25 chicken eggs?
At lunchtime, everyone enjoyed chips with curry sausage and pancakes made with ostrich egg.
In the afternoon, the children stirred away enthusiastically in their bowls, transforming the ingredients – ostrich egg, sugar, butter, baking powder and flour – into delicious biscuits.
It was another successful day, with lots of smiling children’s faces and happy parents.
